3D Part Design For Everyday Projects And Repairs
Good Projects For 3D Part Design
- Replacement clips, tabs, and plastic brackets
- Knobs, buttons, and small controls for electronics or instruments
- Mounts for cameras, lights, sensors, or small devices
- Custom cable guides, strain reliefs, and protectors
- Spacers, caps, covers, and little “missing pieces” on gear
- Simple mechanical linkages, hinges, and adapters
- Organizers and holders for tools, parts, or desk items
- Small enclosures for electronics projects
What You Can Bring To Get Started
- The broken or worn-out part (or the matching part from the other side)
- Basic measurements or dimensions, if you’ve already taken them
- Photos of how the part is used or where it fits
- Rough sketches — even pen-and-paper is totally fine
- Links to similar parts or designs you’ve seen online
- Notes about clearances, screw sizes, or anything it must not hit
- Material or strength needs (for example: “holds weight”, “flexible”, “heat-resistant”)
- Existing 3D files you’d like cleaned up or modified
If you can bring a part, some measurements, or even a rough sketch, I can usually turn it into a ready-to-print 3D model.
Design Ownership & Licensing
Give-and-take in plain English so you always know who owns what.
✽ Standard Licensing (included)
Non-exclusive design license Included
You get a perpetual, non-exclusive license to use the finished 3D models for your own projects or business. You can print parts yourself or through any print shop working on your behalf, including installing or reselling the physical parts as part of your own products or repair work.
Design ownership Retained by Huggins Industries
I retain copyright in the CAD files and 3D models I create. This lets me reuse general techniques and non-confidential geometry in future projects unless we agree otherwise.
Easy reprints & tweaks Included
I keep a backup of your files so you can come back later for reprints or small adjustments without starting from scratch.
Portfolio use Opt-out available
I may use photos or renders of your parts in my portfolio or marketing. If you’d prefer a private project, just let me know and I’ll keep it off all promo materials.
Selling or sharing the design files Not permitted
Under the standard license, you and your internal team can use the CAD/STL files, and you can share them with service providers who are manufacturing parts for you. You may not sell, publish, or otherwise distribute the design files themselves, or license them to others (for example on online marketplaces or to third parties), without a separate written agreement.
✽ Optional Upgrades
Exclusive rights / IP buyout Custom quote
For products you plan to resell, I can transfer ownership of the final design to your business and agree not to reuse or resell it for other clients. With an exclusive rights / IP buyout, you may freely use, modify, and resell both the parts and the design files themselves, including listing the files on marketplaces or supplying them to your own customers. Pricing depends on complexity and scope.
Confidential / NDA projects By request
For sensitive work, I can sign your NDA and keep all files, screenshots, and photos out of public view.
Manufacturing-ready file package Custom quote
Organized file bundle (STL/STEP and agreed formats) with clear naming and revision notes, ready for your in-house team or contract manufacturer. Pricing depends on complexity and scope.
Note on OEM parts: When recreating or modifying parts originally made by another manufacturer, this licensing covers only my original CAD work. It does not grant any rights to the original manufacturer’s trademarks, patents, or other protections, even if you purchase exclusive rights.
